Living in Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas. The second largest state in the continental US is also the second largest in population. About half of the state's population lives in one of two metropolitan areas: Dallas Fort-Worth or Houston.

Texas is in the midst of an economic boom. The state boasts 56 Fortune 500 companies within its borders. In addition to leading all states in total exports, Texas is one of the world's leading producers of energy and aerospace technology. Much of this prosperity is a result of the state's oil resources, which make up approximately one-third of the U.S. petroleum reserve.

Texas is considered one of the most attractive destinations in the country due to a number of economic factors. In recent decades Texas has experienced a widespread surplus of jobs and a low cost of living, attracting many young people to the state for education and work. Texas has no personal income tax and businesses are aided by low taxation and limited government supervision. Combined with the state's attractive climate, abundant natural resources, and central location, it is easy to see why Texas enjoys such prosperity.
